Weather & Packing
Southeast Asia typically experiences hot and humid conditions year-round, so pack light, breathable clothing and comfortable walking shoes for your journey. Don’t forget swimwear for Halong Bay and beach visits, along with essential sun protection including sunscreen, insect repellent and a hat. A light rain jacket is recommended if traveling during the wet season from May to October.
Money Matters
ATMs are widely available throughout cities and tourist areas in both Vietnam and Cambodia, and credit cards are accepted in most hotels and larger restaurants. However, it’s advisable to carry some local currency (Vietnamese Dong and Cambodian Riel) for markets, street food and smaller establishments. USD is commonly accepted in Cambodia and can be useful as a backup currency throughout your trip.
Health & Safety
Drink only bottled water (provided daily on the tour) and apply for comprehensive travel insurance before departure. Bring any prescription medications with you from Australia, as specific brands may not be available locally. Keep a photocopy of your passport separate from the original and consult your doctor regarding recommended vaccinations well before your departure date.
Communication
Purchase a local SIM card upon arrival for affordable data and calls during your stay. Most hotels offer complimentary Wi-Fi, though connection speeds may vary. Before departure, download useful apps such as Google Maps, Google Translate, and Grab (the local ride-sharing service) to enhance your travel experience and make navigation easier throughout your journey.
