Overview

Night 1: Night Train from Hanoi to Sapa

20:30 – 21:00 Pick-up at the hotel. Transfer to the railway station for a local night train to Sapa (schedule 21:50 – 06:30).

Itinerary

Option 1: Staying at homestay

Day 1: Sapa - Y Linh Ho - Lao Chai - Ta Van (B / L / D)

6:30AM, Pick up at Lao Cai station transfer to Sapa for breakfast and relaxation.

Then, we take 12 km of trekking, visit Y Linh Ho and Lao Chai villages of the H’mong minority. After lunch at a local family in Lao Chai or in a drinking shop nearby the river bank, we keep on hiking to Ta Van village of the Dzay where we stay overnight in a local family. Here you have opportunity to experience their daily life, work and original custom.

Day 2: Ta Van - Giang Ta Chai - Su Pan - Sapa (B / L)

Breakfast before starting a tour with 08 km walking to visit 2 villages of the red Dzao, the H’mong (Giang Ta Chai & Su Pan). Visit a beautiful waterfall and rattan bridge. Enjoy landscapes… through bamboo forest on the way to the main road to get the Car to return to Sapa.

Free at leisure until 17:00 to take a night train back Hanoi.

Overnight at the A/C soft sleeper sharing cabin to Hanoi (schedule: 21:00).

Arrive Hanoi railway station at 05:00. Tour ends.

Option 2: Staying at hotel

Day 1: Sapa - Cat Cat Village (B / L / D)

6:30AM, Arrive Lao Cai, pick up at Lao Cai Station then transfer to Sapa for breakfast & relaxation.

09:00 – 09:30AM, Trek to Cat Cat villages of Black H’Mong tribe. Enjoy the waterfall in Cat Cat and beautiful scenery along the way. Then check-in at the hotel (check-in after 12:00PM). Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant.

Afternoon, free time to explore & discover Sapa Market & Stone Church. Back to the hotel for dinner and enjoy the night in Sapa town.

Overnight at the hotel

Day 2: Sapa - Lao Chai - Ta Van - Muong Hoa Valley - Lao Cai (B / L)

After breakfast you will check out and leave your luggage at the hotel, get ready for the trip. Trek down to Lao Chai village to visit the Tay and Day tribes then keep going along the bottom of the Sapa valley to get to Ta Van village which is supposed to be the most beautiful one in the area. Have a picnic lunch on the way. You go back to Sapa by motorbike/jeep. Back to Lao Cai Station by our car. Free at leisure until taking night train back Hanoi.

Overnight at the A/C soft sleeper cabin to Hanoi (schedule: 21:15 – 05:30).

Arrive Hanoi railway station at 05:00. Tour ends.

  • Tour guide in Hanoi will take you to Hanoi Station. You will stay on the train without tour guide. Local tour guide at Lao Cai Station will pick you up by signage of your name.
  • In general, train in Vietnam is based on very local standard and the guest will have to share the cabin and the public toilet with other passengers. The standard of the local train in Vietnam cannot be compared to the train in advanced countries.

  • Old people should not attend the long trek (9 km) due to its challenge and danger in case of rain
    Handicapped people and children under 6 years old shouldn’t attend trekking
  • The thing to bring:
    Warm clothes, scarf, hat, cap because the weather in Sapa is pretty unpredictable. It is normally cold in September, October, November, December, January, February, and March
  • Due to the altitude of Sapa, it is sometimes foggy in December, January, February and March.
  • Trekking shoes, sunglasses, sun cream, insect repellent are also necessary. You should take cash with you in Vietnam Dong because the banking system in Sapa sometimes doesn’t operate well. US Dollar, Euro, Australian Dollar are accepted in Sapa. You should take medicine with you in case you need special treatment although there are some chemist shops in Sapa.

Important Notice

  • Most Museums are closed on Mondays and partly on Fridays and some public holidays.
  • The Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum in Hanoi is closed every Monday and Friday and during the entire months of September and October. The Ho Chi Minh Residence in Hanoi is closed every Monday and Friday.
  • Please note that cyclo rides are subject to government approval.
