4 Days Southern Vietnam – Short Excursion

Upon arrival at Ho Chi Minh City airport, you are met and transferred to your hotel. Then you are free.

This tour, perfect for history and war buffs, will take you back to wartime where you can explore the famous Cu Chi tunnels, try your hand at shooting accuracy with an AK-47 and even sample food eaten by Vietnamese soldiers during the war.

8:30 am in the morning, we departed from Ho Chi Minh city to Cu Chi Tunnels. Cu Chi is now considered a heroic district for its role in the anti – American war resistance during the Vietnam war. It is legendary for its over 220 km underground tunnel system and is a popular tourist site for both Vietnamese and foreigners.

Along the way to Cu Chi from Ho Chi Minh city, we will pass by the scenic local countryside, where you might even spot ducks and buffalo cooling off in the river. You will find it hard to imagine the destruction and damage that once dominated the area, caused by bombing and mines when Cu Chi was “a free target zone”.

After the tunnels, we’ll stop for a lunch of local Vietnamese cuisine before heading back to Ho Chi Minh City. Here, we’ll visit the Reunification Palace, which was the former residence of the President of South Vietnam until the end of the war in April 1975, The Notre Dame cathedral, the General Post Office and the War Remnant Museum.

The tour finishes at 17:30.

This morning, our tour guide will pick you up at your hotel, then transfer to the City of My Tho by bus (1.5 hours). On the way, we will visit Vinh Trang pagoda, the biggest pagoda in the Mekong delta. Upon arrival in My Tho, we will take a boat trip along the Mekong River, where you can see fish cages and floating houses on the river. The boat takes you to a small canal, where you can totally escape from the busy town. The boat cruise in the coconut trees canal takes you to a coconut island in Ben Tre. We disembark and have a walk around the village. Stop at a local family home to enjoy tropical fruit, taste the honey tea, honey wine and listen to Vietnamese traditional music, performed by the villagers.

Stop by the village coconut candy shop, learn how to make candy, and see some handicraft made out of coconut trees. Take a walk through the village and admire the fruits, flowers, trees, local houses, children and people. Then, we headed to the local restaurant. Lunch is set with special Vietnamese food here. 

After lunch, relax, go for a walk or bicycle around the area. We’ll then travel back to the river ferry and head back to Saigon by bus, arriving at around 4:30 pm.

Depending on your departure time there is some free time to relax or further explore Ho Chi Minh City on your own before a transfer to Tan Son Nhat airport you’re your departure flight. The trip ends at the airport.
